It held the top spot at the box office for four weeks in a row before finishing a strong and unexpectedly close second to Blue Beetle in its fifth week. It maintained its success in its sixth week, nearly surpassing Gran Turismo to take the top spot during its first weekend.

This distribution of ticket sales closely resembles the ratio that contributed to The Super Mario Bros. phenomenal success.

With a worldwide gross of $1,340,301,000, Barbie is just $20 million away from overtaking The Super Mario Bros as the year’s highest-grossing film.

Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 is this year’s third highest-grossing film, earning slightly more than $845 million. Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom and The Marvels may aspire to that level of success. Although the first films in their respective series grossed more than $1 billion, the sequels may not receive the same amount of love this go around.
