Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (AOC), D-N.Y., praised President Joe Biden as “one of the most successful presidents in modern American history,” despite growing concerns about his age and mental fitness. The commendation comes in the wake of sharp criticism from Republicans following a special counsel report questioning Biden’s memory and fitness for office.
The report described Biden as a “sympathetic” and “well-meaning” elderly man with “poor memory,” highlighting instances of forgetting major events, including the day his son, Beau, passed away. The details were presented as an explanation for the special counsel’s decision not to recommend charges against the president regarding the alleged mishandling of classified documents.
When confronted about Biden’s age, AOC defended him by pointing out that former President Donald Trump, his presumed GOP challenger, is around the same age. “He’s 77 years old. They could have gone to high school together,” she stated in a CNN interview.
Addressing Trump’s legal troubles, Ocasio-Cortez contrasted the two leaders, emphasizing Biden’s achievements such as the Inflation Reduction Act and the American Rescue Plan, along with substantial federal investments in climate change. She concluded, “I know who I’m going to choose. It’s going to be one of the most successful presidents in modern American history.”
Despite criticisms and concerns about Biden’s age, AOC confidently predicted his reelection in November. The congresswoman’s endorsement comes at a time when both Biden and Trump face scrutiny over their fitness for office, with age-related controversies becoming a focal point in the political discourse.
