Andrea Kolbe, a resident of Huntington, passed away on Monday, December 11, just one day after celebrating her 35th birthday, as mentioned in her obituary.
Her untimely death resulted from a challenging battle with postpartum depression, leaving her husband, Chazz, and their 3-month-old son to navigate the profound loss, as detailed in a GoFundMe campaign organized by Heather Umhafer.
Known within the community as the co-owner and dance instructor at Art In Motion Dance Center of Melville and Commack, Andrea dedicated 14 years of her life to this endeavor.
“Our hearts are shattered as we sorrowfully announce the departure of our beloved Miss Andrea Kolbe. Over the past 14 seasons, she has been a source of inspiration and a role model to our AIM team, students, and extended family,” expressed the organization on Facebook.
“Her infectious laughter and radiant smile illuminated every room. She devoted her life to creating art, teaching young dancers, and spreading love to all—there are not enough words to convey how deeply she will be missed.”
Following the news of Kolbe’s passing, numerous parents of her former students paid tribute, including a heartfelt message from Nicole Sellars of Huntington.
“You showed two out of three of my children how beautiful life was through dance,” she said. “I may not comprehend the pain you experienced, but my heart aches for those who knew and loved you.”
In another tribute, Kolbe’s sister, Kyra Vocci, remembered her as “my shining star, my sweet baby sister, and a beautiful, joyful soul.”
Umhafer’s GoFundMe initiative to assist the family with memorial and ongoing living expenses has garnered tremendous support, raising over $80,000 from 846 donors.
“Both Andrea and Chazz have enriched Long Island’s dance community with their talents, and we aim to support Chazz and Harbor in any way possible in the months and years ahead,” she stated.
