Elden Ring Nightreign has a lot more going on than Elden Ring’s base game, giving each character their own unique abilities and a lot more loot to work with. As such, the controls are a bit different, and there are some small tweaks that may drastically improve your experience.
Nightreign still feels like Elden Ring at first, but it’s much faster and gives the players a lot more variety. Removing inventory weight restrictions and adding abilities for every unique character gives you a lot more to work with. In the original game, it was rare to run multiple weapons. That’s not the case here.
And, while the default control scheme works fine, getting access to every ability in your kit feels a little clumsy. This is especially true if you’re the type of player who likes to map attacks to face buttons instead of triggers.
Fortunately, we’ve got you covered. Here are the best control schemes for Elden Ring Nightreign.
Control Scheme 1 – Standard with small tweaks
If you’re the type that’s into FromSoft’s base controls, the default scheme is fine for the most part. However, there are two small tweaks that will be a huge help:
First, you’ll want to swap the binds for Event Action and Jump. Event Action is how you pick up items, use abilities, and swap weapons between one and two handed. You’ll be using this button way, way more than jumping, so it’s recommended to swap these two around.
The other switch is putting items on X/Square and putting Estus on d-pad up just like Elden Ring’s base game. If you’re like me and have hundreds of hours in the original, rebinding this function is much easier than trying to unlearn all that muscle memory.
Control Scheme 2 – Attacks on face buttons
If you’re someone who prefers attacks to be on face buttons rather than triggers, you’re going to have to do some finagling to get the controls in a place that feels comfortable for you and maps all the functions you’ll need. But, it is doable.
Swapping Normal Attack to X/Square and Strong Attack to Y/Triangle is your best bet if you’re trying to put attacks on your face buttons. However, this does make things a little difficult in terms of binding other buttons.
Jump on RT and Event Action on RB is what we found to be the best setup. This may seem strange, but putting Event Action on a face button makes it very difficult to swap weapons between one and two-handed and use abilities. Pressing A and Y at the same time, for instance, is something that feels very unnatural.
Those are the best control schemes you can use for Elden Ring Nightreign if you’re unhappy with the defaults and want something a little different.
