Danny Boyle has revealed he was planning to set his now axed James Bond movie in Russia.

The director was set to helm Daniel Craig‘s closing outing as 007 earlier than departing the mission attributable to ‘inventive variations’ with producers Barbara Broccoli and Michael G. Wilson.

Speaking to Esquire UK, the Oscar winner, 65, mentioned that his proposed story was set in the now controversial nation and explored Bond’s origins.

He mentioned: ‘I keep in mind pondering, “Should I really get involved in franchises?” Because they do not really need one thing totally different.

‘They need you to freshen it up a bit, however not likely problem it, and we needed to do one thing totally different with it.

‘Weirdly – it could have been very topical now – it was all set in Russia, which is after all the place Bond got here from, out of the Cold War.’

The Slumdog Millionaire director went on to inform the outlet how he felt it was a ‘disgrace’ that he did not get to make a Bond movie, claiming there was a lack of ‘confidence’ over his plot concept.

He mentioned: ‘It was set in present-day Russia and went again to his origins, they usually simply misplaced, what is the phrase… they only misplaced confidence in it. It was a disgrace actually.’

In August 2018, it was confirmed Danny had dropped out of directing the twenty fifth Bond movie.

Cary Fukunaga later took Danny’s place and directed Daniel in 2021 movie No Time to Die.

‘We had been working very, very properly, however they (the Bond bosses) did not need to go down that route with us. So we determined to half firm.’
