DP Gachagua eldest sister dies

Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has announced the passing of her elder sister Leah Wangari Muriuki.

In a statement on Thursday, June 27, 2024, the Second in Command expressed sadness at Wangari’s demise indicating that she was a pillar of their family.

According to Gachagua, Wangari took care of the entire family following the death of their parents.

“I am saddened to receive news of the passing on of our eldest sister Leah Wangari Muriuki. Leah has been our Mother and the family Matriarch; she has taken good care of the larger Gachagua Family after the death of our father and our two mothers,” Gachagua’s statement read in part.

Gachagua extended his condolences to Wangari’s husband, children and grandchildren left behind. The Second in Command pointed out that it was a difficult time for him as a family man and a national leader.

He, however, petitioned for family and nationwide healing during the difficult time.

“We are devastated by the loss of this family head. My deepest condolences to her husband, her children and grandchildren.

“This is a very difficult week for me as a national leader and a family man. May the Lord heal our Nation and families,” Gachagua stated.

Past death cases in their family

The passing of Wangari comes nearly a year after Gachagua’s family also lost a family member. In September 2022, Gachagua also lost his elder brother Jack Reriani.

Reriani fell ill at his Mathira home in Nyeri County and was taken to Jamii Hospital in Karatina, where he was pronounced dead on arrival.

Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua said in a statement that his brother’s death has left him shattered.

“The news of your passing hit me hard. I now remain alone among the sons of Kirigo,” Rigathi stated.

“We spent quality time for three days during our inauguration. You were so happy, jovial and full of life. We shared beautiful moments of our life back in the village,” said the deputy president.

Rigathi and Reriani were born to a polygamous family.

The deputy president’s other brothers, Nderitu Gachagua, who was the first Governor of Nyeri County, and James Reriani have since passed on.

Nderitu died on February 24, 2017, while James Reriani died on May 8, 2022.
