Violent clash erupts between Yes and No voters at polling booth in Queensland – with man rushed to hospital

Violent fight breaks out between Yes and No voters at Queensland polling station – with man rushed to hospital

A violent confrontation between Yes and No supporters at an early voting center has resulted in one person being hospitalized and another arrested.

The confrontation, initially a shouting match, escalated into a violent incident at the Ipswich North early voting centre.

Police allege that around 11:30 a.m. on October 3, a 30-year-old man got into a verbal argument with a 65-year-old man, who then turned physical when the young man assaulted the older man.

Early voting has opened in centers across Australia for the Indigenous Voice in Parliament referendum with a confrontation breaking out at a Queensland center (file image of an early voting center in NSW on Monday)

“It will further be alleged that the Raceview man initially fled the scene before returning a short time later where he was arrested by police,” a police spokesman said.

He has since been charged with aggravated assault and will appear at Ipswich Magistrates’ Court on November 17.

The 65-year-old was taken to Ipswich Hospital for treatment.
