The man and woman filmed the explicit scene on a mobile device inside the Church of Immaculate Conception in El Centenillo, Jaen, which has a population of just over 100 residents.
The adult video was posted online and rapidly circulated on WhatsApp.
The Bishop of Jaen expressed his deep sorrow regarding the footage, which was recorded three months ago but has only recently surfaced.
He shared with the EFE news agency that the Bishopric is experiencing profound sadness and distress over the offense and the turmoil it has caused within the Christian community.
Reports indicate that the woman has already left the village, while the man was never a resident there.
A source informed EFE that the man hails from La Carolina, and contrary to some media claims, the woman was not a cleaner or sacristan at the church. Instead, she was the landlady of a local association that organizes camps for children and youth.
In the days following the incident, the Church came together to seek forgiveness from God, asking for His mercy on the community and for peace and reconciliation for all.
