Drake Hogestyn dies at 70 after battle with pancreatic cancer

Drake Hogestyn has died at the age of 70, his family has confirmed. He made his debut on NBC’s Days of Our Lives on 24 January 1986, portraying the enigmatic spy John Black for 38 years. Today, on 29 September, his family announced that Hogestyn passed away at 70, after battling pancreatic cancer with immense courage.

In a heartfelt Instagram post from Days of Our Lives, his family stated: “It’s with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Drake Hogestyn. Diagnosed with pancreatic cancer, he faced it with incredible strength and determination. After an unbelievable fight, he passed peacefully surrounded by loved ones.

“He was an amazing husband, father, papa, and actor. He loved performing for the ‘Days’ audience and cherished his time with the remarkable cast, crew, and production team. “We love him and will miss him all the Days of our Lives.” Fans quickly took to social media to honour the actor, who also appeared in Seven Brides for Seven Brothers and Criminal Minds.

One Twitter user wrote: “RIP Drake, who was a great actor! You will be missed and my condolences go out to your family and friends during this difficult time.” Another added: “Holy…WoW!! Praying for his family, friends and colleagues. I grew up watching him. RIP, Mr. Hogestyn.”

A third commented: “Terribly tragic and sad news, he is a big loss to the industry. Thinking with love of his family and all the actors he’s worked with over the years, especially Deidre Hall.”

Ken Corday, executive producer of Days of Our Lives, said: “This is a very difficult one for all of us. Hogey was the ultimate team player, and there are not sufficient words to express how deeply he will be missed. His impact on our show, personally and professionally, was profound and will forever remain unmatched.”
