A petition has been filed in the Karnataka High Court, seeking a CBI probe against Chief Minister Siddaramaiah in connection with the alleged MUDA scam.

Lawyer Vasant Kumar, representing petitioner-activist Snehamayi Krishna, said on Friday that they have filed a summons and are seeking directions from the Supreme Court to transfer the case to the CBI to conduct a fair probe into the summons.

“Today we have filed a petition seeking immediate transfer of the MUDA probe to the CBI, which will be heard on Monday. We have also referred to yesterday’s special court order in the petition. Prima facie that MUDA is a big scam, that is why we have requested the Supreme Court for the CBI probe in this case for a free and fair probe into the matter,” Kumar told ANI.

Earlier, a Special Court in Bengaluru on Wednesday passed an order directing Karnataka Lokyukta to initiate a probe against Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah over allegations of illegalities in allotment of 14 sites worth Rs 56 crore to his wife Parvathi by the Mysuru Urban Development Authority (MUDA).

The Karnataka Lokayukta District Police in Mysuru must conduct the investigation and submit a report within three months. The Special Court’s order came after the Karnataka High Court on Tuesday revoked the interim stay order granted on August 19 and directed the court to defer decision on the complaints against Siddaramaiah.

The order came at the request of social activist Snehamayi Krishna.

Amid these developments, despite strong demands from the BJP to resign, Siddaramaiah has refused to resign.

Responding to the BJP’s demands, Siddaramaiah has pointed out that there are also FIRs against Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman and others in connection with the electoral bonds issue.

He argued that if he resigned over an FIR, Sitharaman and others would also have to resign.

“Under 17A, they were asked to conduct an inquiry within three months and submit a report as per the special court. According to that, they will file an FIR and conduct an investigation. There is also an FIR against Nirmala Sitharaman in the people’s representative court; who is she (finance minister) regarding electoral bonds? An FIR has been filed against her; shouldn’t she resign too? took the decision and asked to make inquiries and provide the report within three months,” Siddaramaiah said.

Siddaramaiah also demanded the resignation of Prime Minister Modi and HD Kumaraswamy.

“Let them first resign HD Kumaraswamy and others; shouldn’t they let Kumaraswamy resign? Even Modi should also resign on the electoral bonds issue. They have abused and plundered the electoral association; in that matter, HD Kumarswamy, Nirmala Sitharaman and Modi are the first to resign,” Siddaramaiah said.

The case pertains to the allegation against Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah of illegalities in the allotment of 14 sites worth Rs 56 crore to his wife Parvathi by the Mysuru Urban Development Authority (MUDA).
