Edwina Bartholomew has made a surprise return to Sunrise after taking time off following her shock cancer diagnosis.
The TV presenter, 41, revealed live on air earlier this month that she had been diagnosed with chronic myelogenous leukemia – a form of blood and bone marrow cancer.
Edwina, who was diagnosed in July, said she would take time off from Sunrise in September before quitting her work with the Channel 7 programme.
However, she surprised fans by unexpectedly returning to TV screens on Friday to report live from Melbourne on the highly anticipated AFL Grand Final.
Edwina said she wanted to be back on air in time for the Brisbane Lions versus Sydney Swans clash, admitting she didn’t want to miss it.
She also gave her co-stars Matt Shirvington and Natalie Barr an update on her health, assuring them that she was doing “fine” after her time off.

“I’m doing so well, I’m so well rested, I’ve had a huge gigantic warm hug from Sunrise viewers and I wouldn’t have missed today,” Edwina said on her return to the show.
‘I love [the AFL grand final]as we all do. I wanted to be back in time, not just for the mini jaffles, but to see you all and be here for such a wonderful weekend in Melbourne.”
