A photo of a UFO shot down by a U.S. fighter jet over Canada last year was released on Wednesday. The unclear image resembles a photocopy of an email printout and shows an unidentified cylindrical object hovering in the air in February 2023. This occurred days before it was downed over Canada’s Yukon Territory, which borders Alaska.

A news agency obtained the image through an information request to Canada’s Department of National Defence. The object initially drifted from Alaska into Canadian airspace. The North American Aerospace Defense Command detected the “high-altitude airborne object” at about 40,000 feet over Alaska and dispatched jets to monitor it.

On 11 February 2023, the U.S. F-22 Raptor fired an AIM 9X missile to bring down the object, which was believed to be a “small metallic balloon with a tethered payload.” This was one of three aerial objects shot down that month, shortly after the downing of a Chinese surveillance balloon.

All three objects were smaller than the Chinese spy balloon, which had drifted from Alaska across the U.S. before being shot down off the coast of South Carolina on 4 February 2023.

Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau stated at the time, “Yesterday afternoon, I also spoke with President Biden and confirmed together that we will continue to do everything necessary to protect the sovereignty of our shared North American airspace but also to do everything necessary to keep our citizens safe.”

Biden later clarified that the three objects were not related to the Chinese spy craft incident.

The image of the UFO was initially declassified in Canada and approved for public release. However, the acting assistant deputy minister for public affairs questioned the public release. An internal email suggested that releasing the image might create more questions or confusion, regardless of the accompanying text, due to the current public environment and statements related to the object being benign.

Officials delayed the release pending “U.S. engagement”. Fox News Digital sought comment from the Canadian Department of National Defence.
