The DP warned his boss that he risks losing the trust of the Mt Kenya people which he argues cannot be amended if broken.

Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua on Sunday, September 22 urged President William Ruto to ignore betrayal politics within the United Democratic Alliance (UDA) party, warning of consequences regarding the Mt Kenya region’s support for him.

Speaking at a church service at Pentecostal Evangelistic Fellowship of Africa (PEFA) Church in Thika Town, Kiambu County, the DP warned his boss that he risks losing the trust of the Mt Kenya people which he argues cannot be amended if broken.

Losing the trust of the Mt Kenya people would likely spread across the entire Central region, a vote-rich environment which played arguably the biggest role in Ruto clinching the Presidency over Raila Odinga in the 2022 general elections.

“Our people hate betrayal and they are very unforgiving if you betray them. I ask my brother not to be tempted to go in that direction because these people will be very unforgiving,” Gachagua asserted.

Gachagua also urged President Ruto to ensure his critics do not humiliate him, in a push for the President to put his house in order.

It comes as there are allegations of a faction of UDA legislators scheming to oust the deputy president by way of impeachment through the National Assembly.

“Ruto made one promise which does not require any funding, it does not require IMF or the World Bank. He promised that under his watch he would not allow his deputy to be humiliated. If he cannot keep that one promise, then there is no other thing people can trust him with,” Gachagua said.

He further reminded the president that there was an attempt to betray him in the former regime but the people stood with him to express their displeasure of betrayal.

“I would like to request the president to put his house in order so that we can deliver for the people. And if there is a problem in a home, the father of the homestead can still down and resolve pressing issues with his family,” he added.

Together with his allies, the DP also accused Raila’s ODM party of fomenting chaos within Kenya Kwanza, with deposed UDA Secretary General Cleopas Malala claiming Suna East MP Junet Mohamed and his Homabay Town counterpart Peter Kaluma are set to table an impeachment motion against Gachagua next week.

Speakers at the service who included Malala, Gathoni wa Muchomba, Karungo Thangwa and Mejjadonk argued that if the motion is tabled in Parliament, then Ruto must have authorised and okayed it.

Gachagua warned that Ruto risks losing the support of the Mt. Kenya region if his allies go ahead with the impeachment plan, a matter which will greatly influence the outcome of the 2027 general elections.
