MIAMI — A tropical storm warning has been issued for part of the southeastern coast due to the threat of heavy rains and coastal flooding from severe weather near the Carolinas, the National Hurricane Center said Sunday.
According to meteorologists at the center in Miami, the disturbance has formed off the coast and a tropical storm warning has been issued from Edisto Beach, South Carolina, to Ocrakoke Inlet, near the southernmost point of North Carolina’s Outer Banks.
A warning issued at 5 p.m. EDT Sunday said the area of ​​severe weather was located about 125 miles (200 kilometers) east-southeast of Charleston, South Carolina. It has maximum sustained winds of 45 mph (75 kph) and is moving northwest toward the coast at 7 mph (11 kph).
According to meteorologists, the storm could cause urban flooding, flash flooding and minor river flooding in the coming days, as well as heavy waves in the southeast.
