Amid reported differences with the party leadership, veteran CPI(M) leader EP Jayarajan on Saturday called on Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan and held talks with him at the Kerala House in New Delhi.

Both leaders arrived in the capital to pay their last respects to party general secretary Sitaram Yechury, who died in a Delhi hospital on Thursday due to a lung infection.

The meeting assumes significance following media reports that differences have arisen between him and the party leadership after he was recently removed as LDF chairman.

Jayarajan has been staying away from public programmes and parties for some time now.

However, he told reporters that there was nothing new during his meeting with Prime Minister Vijayan.

Jayarajan said he always visited the CM whenever he had time, especially when he arrived in New Delhi.

“We are all part of one party family. We all have love and respect for each other,” he said in New Delhi.

He also accused the media of spreading wrong news based on wrong interpretations and urged them to think in a “right way”.

The ruling CPI(M) in Kerala on August 31 announced that EP Jayarajan would no longer hold the post of LDF president and would be replaced by party leader TP Ramakrishnan.

The veteran Marxist leader is said to be under fire from the party since he admitted in April to meeting BJP leader Prakash Javadekar.
