The National Authority for the Campaign Against Alcoh0l and D**g A***e (NACADA) enforcement officers raided bars operating near schools in Kangemi, Westlands constituency in Nairobi County, on Thursday, September 12, 2024, night.
NACADA operation
In a statement issued on Friday, September 13, 2024, NACADA says its operation targeted three bars that complaints had been raised about, prompting the authority to carry out compliance checks.
After the operation, NACADA says the bars were found to be situated next to the new Kihumbuini Primary School.
“Last evening, our compliance and enforcement team carried out compliance checks in Kihumbuini within the Kangemi area, targeting three bars that complaints had been raised about. The bars were found to be situated next to the new Kihumbuini Primary School,” the statement reads in part.
Operating without license
An outlet named Jey Jey Club was targeted during the operation, after which it was found to be operating without a liquor license, according to the authority.
NACADA also found out that the bar was offering for sale products with a suspended Kenya Bureau of Standards (KEBS) permit.
This made the NACADA enforcement officers arrest the outlet’s female seller, who has since been booked at Jogoo Road Police Station to await further processing and subsequent arraignment in court.
Liquor confiscated
Twenty-six pieces of assorted liquor brands with suspended permits were also picked from the bar.
“During the operation, an outlet named Jey Jey Club was found to be operating without a liquor license and offering for sale products with a suspended @KEBS_ke permit.
“A female seller was arrested with twenty-six pieces of assorted liquor brands with suspended permits. She was booked at Jogoo Road police station and is awaiting further processing and arraignment in court,” NACADA stated.
The authority has urged members of the public to keep sharing information that will bolster the campaign against liquor and substance a***e in the country.
