The Pharmacy and Poisons Board (PPB) has announced the suspension of the licenses of four pharmaceutical practitioners for professional misconduct.
In a statement on Monday, September 9, 2024, PPB CEO Fred Siyoi said it had convicted two pharmaceutical technologists of allowing unlicensed individuals to access their professional credentials and manage their licensed premises. The two have been suspended for two years.
“The Enquiries and Disciplinary Committee (EDC) of the Board has suspended the licenses of four pharmaceutical practitioners for professional misconduct,” PPB stated.
“In a decision led by the Committee’s Chairperson, Dr Richard Muthoka, two pharmaceutical technologists had their licenses suspended for two years. Their offences included allowing unlicensed individuals to access their professional credentials and manage their licensed premises, thereby jeopardizing public health.”
The board has also suspended the licence of another pharmaceutical technologist for three months for failing to ensure the proper closure of former premises, which allowed an unqualified person to continue overseeing operations.
“Another pharmaceutical technologist received a three-month suspension for failing to ensure the proper closure of former premises, which allowed an unqualified person to continue overseeing operations, posing a risk to public safety,” PPB added.
The fourth pharmaceutical technologist, whose licence has been suspended for three years, was found impersonating a student during the board’s May 2024 examination series.
“In a separate ruling, the Committee also suspended the license of a pharmaceutical technologist for a period of 3 years, found impersonating a student during the Board’s May 2024 examination series,” the statement added.
“After a thorough review of the facts and your written confessions, the Board concludes that your actions represent a serious breach of trust and integrity, essential qualities for anyone in the pharmaceutical field,” read part of the Committee’s decision.
The board did not reveal the names of the practitioners suspended.
