Detectives drawn from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) have arrested two suspects with a unique type of bhang whose street value has been estimated at Ksh8,000 per gram.
DCI in a statement issued via their official social media accounts on Sunday, September 8, 2024, said the arrest followed an operation conducted by the Anti-N*******s Unit (ANU).
DCI in Donholm
According to the anti-crime agency, Teresia Nduku, a Kenyan national and her Tanzanian accomplice Simba Kitwana Khamri, were arrested in Dohnholm, Nairobi.
“An operation conducted by the Anti-N*******s Unit (ANU) officers domiciled at the DCI headquarters led to the apprehension of two notorious d**g traffickers, Teresia Nduku a Kenyan and Simba Kitwana Khamri, a Tanzanian national, in Dohnholm Nairobi,” DCI’s statement reads in part.
Police inspect suspects’ house
The DCI says the suspects, upon their arrest, guided the detectives to their residence in Manyanzani area in Tala, Kangundo Sub-County.
The police conducted a thorough search of their house, during which they unearthed a backpack with a carefully concealed compartment with the bhang, alongside a digital scale and various other documents.
“Following their capture, the cunning suspects guided detectives to their abode in Manyanzani area in Tala Kangundo Sub-County. During a thorough search of their house, authorities unearthed a backpack with a cunningly concealed compartment housing c******s sativa, alongside a digital scale and various incriminating documents,” the DCI said.
Bhang from foreign countries
The DCI in their statement went ahead to note that through their investigation, they had found out that the said unique type of bhang had originated from foreign lands and infiltrated Kenya via the Namanga border.
Further, the DCI says the investigation revealed that the Tanzanian suspect had come to Kenya as an expert in packaging and disguising the bhang in backpacks for distribution to consumers worldwide.
“Investigation revealed that this is a unique type of c******s sativa that originated from foreign lands and infiltrated Kenya via the Namanga border. It was further revealed that the Tanzanian suspect came to Kenya as a maestro in skilful packaging and disguising the illicit d**g in backpacks for distribution to consumers worldwide,” the DCI stated.
The Mohamed Amin-led agency says they were able to establish the street value of the unique type of bhang through intelligence reports.
The suspects have been detained for processing as they await their subsequent arraignment in court.

This comes hours after the DCI detectives launched hunt for a suspect believed to be ferrying 245 rolls of bhang weighing 17.5 kilograms, who fled as his package was being inspected at the booking office when he attempted to ship it to Mombasa.
