Position Overview

Kenyatta University is seeking to engage a dedicated and spiritually mature individual to serve as the Seventh-day Adventist Chaplain.  The ideal candidate will provide pastoral care, spiritual guidance, and support to the University community, promoting a vibrant spiritual life on campus.

Key Responsibilities

  1. Provide spiritual leadership and pastoral care to students, faculty and staff.
  2. Organize and conduct religious services, including weekly Sabbath worship and special events.
  3. Offer counseling and support for individuals facing personal, spiritual, or academic challenges.
  4. Foster an inclusive and welcoming community for all members of the University.
  5. Co-ordinate and support the activities of the Kenyatta University Seventh-day Adventist Church.
  6. Collaborate with other University Chaplains and departments to address the holistic needs of the University community.
  7. Plan and facilitate spiritual retreats, Bible studies, and prayer meetings.
  8. Promote the integration of faith and learning within the academic environment.

Required Qualifications

  1. A Master’s degree in Theology, Divinity, Psychology or a related field from a recognized institution. A PhD or its equivalent will be an added advantage.
  2. Ordained Minister of the Seventh-day Adventist Church for at least three years in good standing.
  3. At least 3 years of pastoral experience, preferably in a university or educational setting.
  4. Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
  5. Ability to work effectively with a diverse university community.
  6. Experience in counseling and crisis intervention.
  7. Ability to organize and lead community service projects.
  8. Familiarity with the higher education environment and student development.

Placement

The successful applicant will be appointed at the level of a Lecturer or Senior Lecturer depending on the expertise
