Council of Governors Chairperson Anne Waiguru has penned an emotional message following the passing of Lamu Deputy Governor Raphael Ndung’u.
In the condolence note shared late Friday night, September 6, 2024, the Council of Governors described the deceased as an astute leader who excelled in his role.
While describing his demise as a great loss, the COG, led by the Kirinyaga Governor, observed that his commitment inspired other leaders beyond Lamu’s borders.
“This is indeed a great loss not only to your County but to the entire nation, as he was a dedicated public servant whose commitment and leadership were evident in all his endeavours.
“His legacy of service in the County Government and the Devolution fraternity, integrity, and compassion will continue to inspire us and those who worked with him. His contributions to the betterment of Lamu County will forever be cherished,” the condolence note read in part.
“Our thoughts and prayers are with you, during this difficult time. May the memories of Ndungú, bring you comfort and may you find peace in the enduring legacy of his service to the p****e of Lamu,” it added.
Ndung’u passed away after a short battle with illness.
The deceased rose to the position of Deputy Governor after successfully contesting on a joint Amani National Congress (ANC) ticket alongside current Governor Issa Timamy.
The duo trounced the then-Governor Fahim Twaha to ascend to power.

President William Ruto confirmed his passing on Friday highlighting his achievements and leadership qualities.
“He was a progressive leader who worked tirelessly for the greater good of the pèople of Lamu. Our love and prayers to the family, friends and the pèople of Lamu County at this sad moment,” Ruto said.
His Deputy Rigathi Gachagua also stated that Ndung’u exemplified servant leadership and professionalism.
“It is with profound sadness that I have received the news of the passing on of Lamu County Deputy Governor, Raphael Munyua Ndung’u.
“A highly dedicated, Development- oriented person, DG Munyua served the P****e of Lamu with utmost dedication, diligence, and professionalism,” he stated.
