Many people would likely line up to kiss Winona Ryder, but one A-list actor once declined. Winona Ryder, known for her role in Stranger Things, began her film career as a teenager, debuting in Lucas at age 15.
She has since appeared in films like Beetlejuice, Edward Scissorhands, and Black Swan. Ryder will soon be seen in the sequel to Beetlejuice, set to release on Friday, 6 September. Ahead of the release, Ryder spoke on Josh Horowitz’s Happy Sad Confused podcast about her lengthy career.
She reminisced about an audition for the 1993 film Fearless with Jeff Bridges. “Jeff Bridges, who I adore, wouldn’t kiss me,” the 52-year-old Ryder recounted to Horowitz.

She explained, “I was too young. At the end of the scene, he was supposed to kiss me, and I was waiting. He kissed my forehead instead, saying, ‘You’re like my daughter’s age.’ I was like, ‘No!’”
Bridges has three daughters: Isabelle, 43, Jessica, 41, and Hayley, 38. While Ryder isn’t the same age as his children, his hesitation is understandable. During the podcast, Ryder also shared details about her text exchanges with Keanu Reeves.
They co-starred in Bram Stoker’s Dracula in 1992 and have remained friends. Ryder humorously calls Reeves her ‘husband,’ referencing a supposed wedding while filming Dracula over 30 years ago. “For his birthday, I always text ‘Happy Birthday, my husband!’ and sign it off as Noni,” Ryder said.
“He replies, ‘Hey, wife! Love you KR57.’ Every birthday, he uses ‘KR57′ or his current age. He’s always done that.” When asked about starring in Reeves’ John Wick films, Ryder revealed she would only consider it if it didn’t involve stunts, as she is ‘thinking about [her] bones.’ Given the action-heavy nature of the John Wick series, it’s unlikely the fifth film, now in development, will be any different.
