Jackie ‘O’ Henderson weighs in on Elle Macpherson’s controversial cancer treatment after model refused chemotherapy

Jackie ‘O’ Henderson has spoken out about Elle Macpherson’s controversial battle with breast cancer, after the model claimed she treated her disease holistically.

The 60-year-old supermodel drew widespread criticism when she revealed in her memoir that she ignored the medical advice of 32 doctors and opted for wellness methods to treat her cancer, which was likely removed during breast-conserving surgery seven years ago.

On Thursday morning, Jackie invited guest Dr. Sam Hay onto the Kyle and Jackie O Show on KIIS FM to criticise Elle’s shocking claims and urge fans not to follow in the WelleCo founder’s footsteps.

‘[Elle] is an exception to the rule. I urge people not to listen to the loud voices of celebrities. Listen to the medical team around you,’ said Dr. Sam.

Jackie then asked, “What did she do? What was part of her holistic treatment?” to which Dr. Sam replied, “I’m not sure she said that.”

At this point, co-host Kyle Sandilands interjected, “How can you screw up if you don’t even know?”

“It’s like being completely clean, Zen, that kind of thing. You treat your body like a temple,” Jackie explained.

Dr. Sam added, “A lot of meditation, eating blueberries, doing yoga, reiki.”

“Is that it? Does this cure cancer?” Kyle asked.

But Dr. Sam insisted, “Well, it might make you feel good and it might help with some symptoms, but it’s not proven to cure cancer.”

The renowned physician is not the only medical professional warning people against opting solely for holistic cancer treatments.

Dr. Karl Kruszelnicki was a guest on WSFM’s Jonesy & Amanda Thursday morning and told listeners that Elle “won the lottery” when her cancer went into remission.

The science commentator said Elle’s cancer was “completely under control” and had been “95 per cent” removed during her breast-conserving surgery seven years ago.

He said doctors likely recommended traditional medical treatments to treat the remaining five percent and prevent the cancer from returning.

“She decided to enter a lottery where there was a one in 20 chance that bad things would happen,” Dr. Karl said.

‘Luckily, the nineteen out of twenty worked in her favor, and she got lucky. And I’m so glad it worked out for her.

‘But imagine this: if one in twenty cups of coffee were poisoned, would you drink coffee? No.

“So she entered the lottery, and she came out fine. Not everybody will do that. Nineteen will, and one will die.”

Elle was diagnosed with HER2-positive estrogen-receptive intraductal carcinoma, a form of breast cancer, after undergoing breast-conserving surgery seven years ago.

Instead of traditional medical treatment, the Australian model took a ‘holistic’ approach and the disease is now in remission.

She has since been called ‘shockingly irresponsible’ for treating her condition with a ‘heart-guided holistic approach’, ignoring the advice of 32 doctors.

Doctors suggested a mastectomy along with radiation, chemotherapy, hormone therapy and reconstruction of her breast to prevent the cancer from returning after breast-conserving surgery.

But Elle decided to undergo an unconventional treatment, enlisting a group of specialists to develop a plan that addressed “both emotional and physical factors associated with breast cancer.”

The model rented a house in Phoenix, Arizona and spent eight months there, regularly seeing two therapists: a chiropractor, a holistic dentist and a doctor who claims to have cured her own cervical cancer using juice cleanses and a “detox.”

She is now in clinical remission, meaning she no longer has any signs or symptoms of the disease.
