17-year-old among 2 arrested as bhang worth Ksh1.3M is recovered

A 17-year-old is among two individuals arrested in Nambale, Busia County, after police recovered bhang valued at Ksh1.32 million.

According to a statement by the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI), the arrests were made at a roadblock where officers intercepted a Toyota Hiace Matatu carrying five bales of bhang weighing 44 kilograms.

Arrests

The suspects, identified as 40-year-old Okuchil Ayubu and the 17-year-old juvenile, were apprehended after officers conducted a search of their bags, leading to the discovery of the illicit substance.

“At a roadblock along Nambale-Busia road, two traffickers, among them a 17-year-old juvenile, were caught red-handed with a stash of m*******a valued at Ksh1.32 million. The suspects, Okuchil Ayubu, 40, and the daring juvenile offender, were ejected from a Toyota Hiace Matatu after being flagged down by officers.

“Upon inspecting their bags, officers seized five bales of m*******a, weighing 44 kilos,” the DCI announced.

In a separate incident, police from Isebania Police Station recovered a bhang valued at Ksh7.8 million that had been hidden in a bush in the Biamati area along the Mutemorabu-Boembu road.

Acting on a tip-off from vigilant citizens, officers uncovered five and a half sacks of bhang weighing 260 kilograms.

Suspects escape

Although the suspects managed to escape through a nearby thicket, police are continuing their efforts to apprehend them.

“The suspects are in police custody undergoing processing pending arraignment, while ongoing efforts are being made to track down those who managed to evade capture. The recovered n*******s are securely held as exhibits.
