Debate After Morara Kebaso Asks Kenyans To Raise Over Ksh1M To Support Him

Morara became a sensation on TikTok and X (formerly Twitter) for mimicking President William Ruto with his near-perfect impersonation before transitioning to actively verifying government projects across the country.

Lawyer and activist Morara Kebaso is now appealing to Kenyans to support him financially as he seeks to step up his Civic Education efforts on good governance in the country and fact-finding missions on various government projects.

His actions were praised by Kenyans, who in turn accused the media of allowing an individual like himself with a far smaller operating budget to surpass them in daily efforts to keep the government of the day accountable.

However, in a move that could enhance his image and give media houses a run for their money, Morara requested Kenyans to fundraise Ksh1.2 million for a presidential sound or a middle sound worth Ksh838,200, which he broke down and asked Kenyans to review the quoted prices and verify if they are within the market rates.

“For the sound system, I have already raised Ksh325,000 on mobile money. I hope more Kenyans of goodwill will continue giving,” he stated on X.

According to Morara, the PA system will be used only for purposes of civic education and good governance campaigns.

To facilitate his travels across the country with the PA system, Morara believed that his old Land Rover Defender could be repaired by fitting a new gearbox to get it running. This would allow him to cover ground as he visits various projects and pulls crowds to pay attention to his civic education.

“These assets will be used only for purposes of civic education and good governance campaigns. I will be organizing caravans where you can join me as we make a combined effort to redeem our country,” he set the record straight.

His request received a positive reception as Kenyans in his comment section agreed to support him. Some were of the opinion of sponsoring Morara to be the next youth to run against President William Ruto in 2027.

However, as of the time of publishing this story, a section of Kenyans opposed the move, some claiming that Morara was eyeing becoming the very politicians Kenyans, mostly the youth, have been opposing this year.

“Wow! You started without public participation, you can continue without public participation. Don’t take advantage of goodwill from citizens that makes you no different from the politicians. Welcome to politics!!” one wrote.

“This is how every social cause dies. When people start feeling that the fight is now being commercialized. Let’s just continue the fight as previously….Highlighting the fake projects, just a video camera and uploading videos online. No need for this public address expense,” wrote another.

Morara’s background is diverse. He was the first student to score an A at St. Francis Gekendo Secondary School since 1979.

His early career included roles such as working as a waiter at Ufanisi Resorts, selling salt for Kaysalt as a merchandiser, and teaching Mathematics and Physics at Kabiro Secondary School.

He also ventured into online writing during his time in university and engaged in various businesses, including selling avocados, insurance, and running a wines and spirits shop.

By the age of 28, Morara had achieved significant milestones, including buying his first car at 22, driving multiple Prado vehicles, and purchasing a house at 26.

He is also the founder of Morara Home Furniture, a company that employs over 75 people with branches in Utawala, Kangundo Road, Mombasa, and Eldoret.

Kebaso was recently involved in a verbal clash with State House Spokesperson Hussein Mohamed after he alleged that he received a call from President Ruto.

According to Kebaso, the President’s entourage initially reached out to him, followed by a personal call from the Head of State offering him a plum job.
