Maren Morris discusses bisexuality and her new queer anthem Push Me Over: ‘I wanted to celebrate it’

Maren Morris recently revealed why she decided to publicly come out as bisexual on June 9, during LGBTQAI Pride Month.

“It was something I always knew about myself,” the 34-year-old Grammy winner said on Sophia Bush’s podcast Work in progress last thursday.

“I hate the confusion and I wanted to celebrate. And just for me, I just wanted to get it all out. Yeah, I think these are things that need to be forward-facing for me. You do that, but for me it was like, ‘My life is so open now, I’m not hiding any part of myself.’ So it was out of a true, celebratory nature.”

Maren – who finalized her divorce from country singer Ryan Hurd in January — also revealed that she has never been in a relationship with a woman, despite feeling desires as early as age eight.

‘It’s like being in a role where you’ve never had a relationship before [before]“I’m probably going to date someone in public,” Morris noted.

‘I would like to be able to do that without any malicious intent from the press, bloggers or anyone else.’

The Democratic National Convention performer — who has 3.9 million followers on social media — didn’t want to issue a formal press release, so she casually posted her endorsement in a Instagram message: ‘Happy to be the B in LGBTQ+, happy pride!’

On August 2, Columbia released Marens’ EP Intermission, featuring a queer anthem called Push Me Over.

“Can you take control? Show me where to go / Never been here before / Don’t know what it is, but I like the taste / Want you in my bed / ‘Cause I don’t need no friends,” Morris sings.

‘Sitting on the fence, just push me over / Even if it’s just tonight / You got me through to the other side anyway / But did you push me off, or did I? / Either way, I gotta say, no hesitation.’

The Kiss the Sky singer is known for being very affectionate with her girlfriends, as evidenced by an April 23 photo of her kissing photographer Sonya Jasinski with their arms around each other.

Maren also made her triumphant breakthrough on April 17 with her best friend and now co-author Karina Argow, after their children’s book Addie Ant Goes On an Adventure became a New York Times bestseller.

Since 2022, Morris has been an outspoken ally of the LGBTQAI community, working with GLAAD and serving as a guest judge on the five-time Emmy-winning reality competition RuPaul’s Drag Race in 2023.
