Angela Rayner congratulated on her ‘dancing skills’ as deputy PM swaps house music for her housing brief in Commons return days after being spotted raving in an Ibiza nightclub with Denise Van Outen

Angela Rayner was congratulated on her dancing skills as she returned to work after her festive holiday in Ibiza.

The 44-year-old deputy prime minister was trolled by a Conservative MP after she swapped house music for her speech on housing and communities in the House of Commons.

Ms Rayner raised eyebrows last week after she was filmed throwing figures with actress Denise van Outen during a wild night out on the Spanish party island.

The footage shows the minister dressed in red dancing to a remix of Gotye’s hit Somebody That I Used to Know at the Hi Ibiza club at around 4am on Thursday.

As Ms Rayner answered questions in her additional role as Secretary of State for Housing, Communities and Local Government, former Conservative Party minister Jesse Norman caused laughter when he began a question by saying: ‘I congratulate the Secretary of State on her recent appointment and on her dancing skills.’

The Labour Party vice-chairman was seen smiling as someone shouted ‘hear, hear!’

Ms Rayner is understood to have flown to Ibiza after a meeting on Wednesday with mayors, supervisors and fire chiefs over unsafe cladding.

The footage of her dancing in the DJ booth suggests it was early Thursday morning, with the clock showing it as being after 4am.

Hi Ibiza describes itself as ‘the most technologically advanced club in the world’ with ‘leading DJs and groundbreaking immersive experiences’.

The club, where David Guetta previously played, welcomes Fisher as a regular guest every Wednesday evening.

The producer, real name Paul Nicholas Fisher, is from the Gold Coast in Australia and started his music career after initially wanting to become a professional surfer.

The 37-year-old is a fan of colourful bucket hats and is friends with England footballer Declan Rice, who signed a shirt for him after a performance in London.

Mrs Rayner is clearly a fan too, with the politician jumping up and down during his Gotye remix.

Speaking at an event at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival last year, Ms Rayner said she had just returned from a holiday in Spain, where she had partied from mid-afternoon until dawn the following morning.

The Labour leader, who is nicknamed ‘Grangela’ at Westminster after having a grandchild at the age of 37, said: ‘The girls I was partying with are half my age, and I thought, “I’m a grandma.”

“I was proud of that. I started at 4 p.m. and got home at 6 a.m., the sun was shining and I thought, ‘Yeah, I can do it.’”

When asked if she did it “with or without chemical support,” she replied that she only drank vodka.

“You have to go with the music, the vibes. You have to be in the moment and it takes you away,” Ms Rayner added.
