A 90-year-old veteran was shot and run over with his own car in a violent attack near his retirement home. The suspect remains at large.
Great-grandfather Nelson Beckett was killed around noon Saturday by a gunman near the Lone Star Living complex in Houston, police said.
He was in his car when the man approached him, attacked him and shot him, according to Fox News. The perpetrator then stole Beckett’s belongings and his vehicle, before running him over with it.
Beckett’s car was later found abandoned at an apartment complex on Dunlap Street, about three miles away. According to ABC13, the 90-year-old man was taken to the hospital, where he died.

Great-grandfather Nelson Beckett was killed around noon Saturday by an unknown gunman near the Lone Star Living complex in Houston, police said.
The suspect is described as a black male between 25 and 30 years old, according to Fox Newsand two days later he is still at large.
Beckett’s daughter, Tami Freund, said the 90-year-old served in the Navy and had five grandchildren and six great-grandchildren, with another on the way.
“He loved people very much and he loved his family very much,” Freund told Fox News. “To him, everyone was valuable and he would do anything for anyone.”
Freund added that her father was a Christian and that he was the kindest and funniest man she had ever met.
He loved meeting new people and would often greet them with a joke or by showing them his company car with the words ‘my business card’ on it.
Freund said he spent much of his retirement helping others, including driving people without cars to doctor’s appointments and Sunday church services.
“He loved his family and his family very much,” Freund said of her slain father Nelson Beckett (pictured). “To him, everyone was valuable and he would do anything for anyone.”

He even offered his home as a shelter, taking guests to beg and taking them to church, where he even baptized some of them.
According to the US government, the murder rate in Houston is 19 per 100,000 residents. most recent available datamaking it the most dangerous city in Texas.
For comparison, Dallas has 16.6 murders per 100,000 residents, San Antonio has 15.9 murders per 100,000 residents, Fort Worth has 10.8 murders per 100,000 residents, and Austin has 6.8 murders per 100,000 residents.
