Children’s book to blame for fire inside car, North Carolina officials say

Authorities in Burke County, North Carolina, say a children’s book is the cause of a vehicle fire

BURKE COUNTY, NC — Officials in North Carolina have determined that a children’s book was the cause of a car fire in Burke County.

Destiny Williams and her daughter Misty had come home from church that day and entered the houseWilliams told WSOC. Then she started seeing smoke coming from the car.

A neighbor eventually extinguished the fire with a garden hose, WSOC reported. After the fire was extinguished, the fire marshal’s office was called to the scene, authorities said.

“My first thought was, ‘What if it really did happen?’ Because if it did happen (and I was in the car), I would be without my daughter and my wife,” the girl’s father, Pressley Williams, told WBTV.

According to the Burke County Fire Department, one of the books near the burned car seat was believed to contain a lithium battery, which can ignite if overheated.
