Man charged with fatal stabbing of London bus driver

Authorities have charged a man with the alleged stabbing murder of a London bus driver after his apprehension at Notting Hill Carnival over the weekend. Previously, detectives had sought Kamar Williams in connection with the fatal stabbing of 53-year-old bus driver Derek Thomas in Stoke Newington. They initially believed Williams had fled over 230 miles from London to Devon or Cornwall.

Police arrested the 33-year-old from the Isle of Dogs on Monday, August 26 after spotting him at the carnival. On Tuesday, August 27, he was charged with both murder and possession of a knife.

Williams is scheduled to appear in custody at Wimbledon Magistrates’ Court on Wednesday, August 28. Derek Thomas’s family has been notified and is receiving support from specialist officers. Additionally, authorities arrested a 30-year-old woman on Saturday, August 3 on suspicion of assisting an offender. She was later released on bail.

A police spokesperson confirmed today that there were 349 arrests over the weekend – 102 on Sunday and 247 on Monday during the carnival. Offences ranged from possession of offensive weapons to harassment.
