The Nairobi City Water and Sewerage Company (NCWSC) has announced that it has shut down the water supply along the Sasumua-Kabete pipeline which will affect several estates for 24 hours.

In a public notice seen by Viral Tea, Nairobi Water revealed that the service shutdown will affect water supply in parts of the capital city from today, Wednesday, August 28 to Thursday, August 29.

The company attributed this to vandalism of the Sasumua dam water treatment pipeline to Kabete Water Works at the Kanunga area near Nazareth Hospital in Kiambu on the night of August 27, 2024.

“In this regard, our engineers have moved to the site and repairs have commenced immediately,” stated Nairobi Water in part.

“The repairs are expected to take 24 hrs from 10.00 am today 28 August 2024. The supply will be reinstated by 29 August 2024 at 12 pm.”

Sasumua Dam water pipeline was commissioned in 1956 covering a length of 56 kilometres and bringing 61,000 cubic metres a day of water to the Kabete reservoir.

To reduce the impact of water supply reduction to the west of Uhuru Highway, Nairobi Water announced that it shall rationalize the water supply from Ngethu to Gigiri reservoirs to increase the pumping of more water from Gigiri to Kabete Water Reservoirs.

“We shall also alleviate the water supply failure by supplying water to schools, hospitals among other public institutions by water tankers,” added the notice.
