Southampton are weighing their options after the deal for Feyenoord goalkeeper Justin Bijlow collapsed following his medical.

In a statement on social media, Bijlow said the Premier League club “has a different view than Feyenoord on the treatment of an old injury”.

The 26-year-old added that he is ‘fully fit and has no problems with this issue’.

Southampton now appear to want to miss out on the Dutchman as they look to sign a goalkeeper before Friday’s deadline.

Arsenal’s Aaron Ramsdale is a player of interest to the Saints, but he is currently too expensive. Ajax also remain interested in Ramsdale.

Ramsdale was replaced as Arsenal’s No.1 by David Raya at the start of last season and has failed to regain his place since.

Raya joined the Gunners permanently from Brentford earlier this summer and has made a strong start to the new season, making a miraculous save from Ollie Watkins in Arsenal’s 2-0 win over Aston Villa on Saturday.

Ramsdale will likely need to leave the Emirates to become a regular first-team player and retain his place in the England squad, but Southampton cannot afford to sign him permanently at this stage.

Alex McCarthy was Southampton’s goalkeeper for their opening two Premier League games, which Russell Martin’s team lost 1–0 to Newcastle and Nottingham Forest respectively.

McCarthy was to blame for Newcastle’s opening day goal, his sloppy pass intercepted by Alexander Isak, before setting up Joelinton for the winning goal.

Southampton are back in action tonight when they take on Cardiff City in the second round of the Carabao Cup.
