Ambulance windscreen shattered by object thrown from bridge

Police are investigating after an object thrown from a bridge shattered an ambulance windscreen in what they describe as a “reckless and dangerous” act.

An East of England Ambulance Service vehicle was responding to an emergency call when the incident occurred on Wednesday, August 21. Around 3.30pm, while driving along the A120 near Stansted with blue lights flashing, the driver reported that an unknown object was hurled from the B1256 bridge at the Dunmow West turn-off, striking the windscreen.

The impact shattered the windscreen, resulting in £500 worth of damage. Essex Police are appealing for anyone with information about the incident to come forward to assist with their inquiries.

Detective Constable Clair Ward from Braintree CID stated, “Throwing objects from a bridge is both reckless and dangerous. We are treating this as criminal damage to a vehicle endangering life.

“Fortunately, the crew escaped unharmed, but the consequences could have been dire. This behaviour is completely unacceptable, and we seek the public’s assistance.”
