Normally, a new flagship Pixel phone launches with a new version of Android, but this year Google did things differently and launched the Pixel 9 series earlier in the year than is usual for its new flagship phones.
And what about Android 15? Well, we’re still waiting for that. But at least the company has now revealed the month in which this software update will be rolled out.
As noted by Android AuthorityGoogle has now updated the release notes for the Android Beta Exit update. This is what users who choose to leave the Android 15 beta will see. At the top of the release notes is a line stating that Android 15 will be available in October.
Since these are Google’s official release notes, we can take this as confirmation that Android 15 will be released this year. Even if it is a remarkably modest way for Google to make such a big announcement.
A one month window
The notes aren’t more specific, so we don’t know exactly when in October the finished version of Android 15 will be released. However, Android Authority has learned from a source that Android 15 could be released mid-month.
So it may be a while before the app is available. And when it is available, it will initially only be available on Pixel phones. Other manufacturers will have to prepare their own versions of Android 15 for their devices.
If you own a Samsung, OnePlus or other Android device, it can take weeks for your order to be delivered. In some cases, it can take even longer.
Still, hopefully the Android 15 update will be worth the wait. Based on betas and leaks, it could include things like a battery health percentage, lock screen widgets, a Private Space to hide sensitive apps, Bluetooth Auracast support, and more.
So it could breathe new life into older Android phones, and could even be a welcome update for brand new devices like the Google Pixel 9 Pro.
