She has received several award nominations in the past for her portrayals of historical female figures, but that hasn’t stopped Kate Winslet from criticizing Hollywood for not being interested in all-female biopics.
Winslet, 48, who stars in the upcoming film Lee about famed war photojournalist Lee Miller, didn’t hold back her words in a foul-mouthed tirade about perceived sexism in the film industry.
“I’ve been in this industry a long time, I’ve won an Oscar. It doesn’t make a f***ing difference if you’re making a film about a historical female figure,” she fumes.
‘There was a financier who said to me, ‘Why should I like this woman?’ And I thought, ‘Well, you’re not going to do our movie anyway, so f*ck you.’

She adds: ‘That was actually great, that we could just say, ‘We’re only going to make it with nice people who understand the story we’re trying to tell.’

Good news for former Blue Peter presenter Janet Ellis, who lost her husband, TV producer John Leach, to cancer four years ago.
Last weekend she celebrated the wedding of her Oxford-educated daughter Martha, a 33-year-old art scholar, to music curator Gabriel Bijlmakers at Hackney Town Hall in London.
In a moving tribute to Leach, Janet, 68, said: ‘Martha kept a photo of her father tied with a blue ribbon to her bouquet and we carried him in our hearts every second of every day.’ She added: ‘He would have loved it, he loved her so much and knew she had chosen the right man.’
Meanwhile, Martha’s older half-sister, pop star Sophie Ellis-Bextor, sang Nobody Does It Better by Carly Simon for the bride and groom’s first dance. “My little sis is no longer a Miss,” the singer sang.
