Russia assaults Ukraine, 4 dead and 37 injured in latest attacks

Russia launched assaults on northern, eastern, and southern Ukraine, resulting in at least four fatalities and 37 injuries, according to Ukrainian military and local authorities on Sunday. Overnight strikes hit the frontline regions of Chernihiv, Sumy, Kharkiv, and Donetsk, as reported by Ukraine’s air force on Telegram. Ukraine’s air force stated that most of the missiles missed their targets. Russia fired an Iskander-M ballistic missile, an Iskander-K cruise missile, and six guided air missiles. The air force did not specify how many were intercepted.

In the northern Sumy region, a missile strike killed one person and injured at least 16 others, including three children, according to local authorities on Telegram. Kharkiv’s governor, Oleh Sinehubov, reported that 13 people, including a 4-year-old, were injured in the attacks. Kharkiv’s mayor, Ihor Terekhov, noted damage to a gas pipeline, with two houses destroyed and 10 more damaged.

Ukraine’s air defence systems shot down eight of nine attack drones over the Mykolaiv region. In the southern Kherson region, continuous Russian attacks killed one person and injured six others, according to Roman Mrochko, head of Kherson city’s military administration.

Regional prosecutors in Sumy reported that an aerial bomb struck a residential area in Svesa village on Sunday afternoon, killing two people and injuring two more. These reports have not been independently verified, and there was no immediate comment from Russia. Both nations deny targeting civilians in the conflict that began with Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine in February 2022.
