Nando’s worker criticises police after shocking plate attack in Stratford

A Nando’s employee, struck with a plate in an “unprovoked” workplace attack, claims she was “grossly let down” by the police. She shared a seven-minute video on social media expressing her disappointment and frustration with the police response at the time.

The shocking incident, which occurred at the Stratford branch in east London, recently went viral. The footage shows a man hitting the employee on the head with a plate.

Nando’s management reported the attack to the Metropolitan Police immediately. However, the woman criticised the police, stating, “I was grossly let down by them. They have reopened the investigation now. Thanks for all the support and attention it has received online. However, I was really disappointed with the police response at the time.”

The employee attributed the reopening of the investigation to the online support and attention the video received.

CCTV footage shows a female waitress approaching a table where a bearded man in a black beanie and dark hoody is seated with a woman and baby. As she places a plate of food on the table, the man strikes her across the face with the plate, causing her to fall backwards.

The Met Police acknowledged the video and are investigating why the incident was not promptly addressed by officers.

A spokesperson from the Met Police stated, “We are aware of a video circulating online showing an incident in a branch of Nando’s in Stratford which took place in March. A report of assault was made to police at the time, but it appears this was not progressed promptly by officers. We are working to determine why this happened and accept this is not the level of service Londoners should expect from the Met. We have since contacted the victim and taken a statement – we will keep her updated with the progress of the investigation. There has been no arrest, and enquiries are ongoing to locate the man involved.”
