5 Family Members Die In Road Accident On Eldoret-Malaba Highway

The five family members in the car who perished on the spot were returning home after a family member’s wedding in Busia.

The two who sustained injuries managed to jump out of the vehicle. Drivers of the oil tanker and the tractor escaped without sustaining any injuries.

“We have arrested the driver of the oil tanker and are pursuing the occupants of the tractor who are at large,” Meli stated.

Earlier on Sunday, a tragic accident claimed the life of a bodaboda operator following a head-on collision with a matatu along the Embu-Mwea Road in Kariba. The accident involving a matatu and a motorcycle occurred near a steep section of the road, causing disruptions to traffic.

The motorbike was reported to have struck the driver’s side of the matatu with considerable force, leading to the immediate death of the boda boda operator at the scene. The impact left the motorbike mangled and the matatu severely damaged.

Statistics by the National Transport and Safety Authority (NTSA) revealed that as of April this year, 7,198 Kenyans have been involved in road accidents, marking an increase of 1,908 compared to last year, with the authority referencing accidents from January 1 to April 1.

Among the 7,198 Kenyans, NTSA revealed that 1,189 died from road accidents, 3,316 were seriously injured and 2,693 suffered from minor injuries.
