‘Watu wana roho yenye sitawai elewa’ – Karen Nyamu slams senators who celebrated Kawira’s impeachment

Nominated Senator Karen Nyamu has condemned some of her colleagues in the Senate who celebrated the impeachment of Meru governor Kawira Mwangaza.

In a statement shared on X, Nyamu stated even though she supports her removal from office, it was inhuman for some of the senators to celebrate Kawira’s ouster.

The vocal lawmaker added that August 20, 2024, will remain unforgettable.

“I will never forget how some colleagues celebrated the Meru governor’s impeachment tonight. Not that I don’t support her impeachment, but celebrating?? Watu wana roho yenye sitawai elewa,” she said.

Nyamu on Kawira’s impeachment

Nyamu who was nominated by the UDA party stated that Kawira was impeached on weak grounds.

She further added that Kawira was the senior politician in Meru and she should be the one doing victimization and not the other way round.

“Very weak grounds to uphold an impeachment. The threshold was missed by far. However, a political decision had to be made to save Meru from the back and forth,” she said.

“How are you not able to deal with your p****e? As governor, you were the senior politician in Meru, you should be the one doing the victimizing, and not complaining of the same all in all it was a sad day from G7 to G6. Painful.”

Kawira’s impeachment

On Tuesday, August 20, 2024, Senators upheld Kawira Mwangaza’s impeachment despite her hopes of surviving a third impeachment motion at the Senate.

On the first charge of gross violation of the Constitution and other laws, the Senate found Kawira g****y, with 26 Senators voting to confirm the charge, 4 voting against it, and 14 abstaining.

Most of those who abstained are allied to the opposition parties.

“The Senate has tonight voted to uphold the decision of the County Assembly of Meru to remove from office by way of impeachment, the Governor of Meru County, Hon Kawira Mwangaza,” Speaker of the Senate Amason Kingi said.

A governor ceases to hold office if a majority of the Senate members uphold any of the impeachment charges, according to Section 33(7) of the County Government Act.
