Oscar De La Hoya has been embroiled in a social media controversy after a posted video of him and his partner was removed following a number of complaints.

De La Hoya, the promoter of American fighter Ryan Garcia, shared a video of himself dancing with his partner Holly Sonders on Instagram. According to Spanish outlet Marca, this is a “sexual dance”.

Sonders is filmed in her underwear, while De La Hoya wears nothing but a leopard-print thong. The two dance together to Sak Noel’s Spanish-language song Loca People.

It was no surprise that the video quickly went viral, but it did come to the attention of people who weren’t so impressed with the clip.

One account reposted the clip before it was removed by Instagram, writing: ‘She looks disgusting and Oscar is having a midlife crisis.

“This is not going to end well, the internet will destroy them.”

De La Hoya was unimpressed with Instagram’s action and insisted his “enemies” were responsible for reporting the video.

“I just got banned. My last post was really funny and the haters reported it. They hate to see me happy,” he said on social media.

Sonders added: “We both posted a funny video about an hour ago,” Sonders, 37, wrote in a post on her Instagram Story. “It got removed from both accounts because lames reported it.

“Oscar has had 6,000 comments in 30 minutes. I think some people really hate to see us having fun. The good news… we’ll be back tomorrow with more.”

Sonders appeared to take aim at Instagram after the clip was removed, posting a message saying, “IG is removing all my content that isn’t covered from head to toe… so here it is. I’m playing within their guidelines for a day.”

“And if you’re one of the salty types, rest assured, we’ll be back this week with more thong videos, because we’re staying in Mexico. ALWAYS HAVE FUN, FRIENDS.”

She then followed up with another video with the caption, “Thanks for watching our LIVE! And for making our ridiculous video go insanely viral as one of the most viewed videos of 2024! Send me some more ideas for our next video… Oscar already has some ideas.”

In the video, Sonders asks about the “craziest videos you have,” before De La Hoya interrupts to show off his muscular body, after which his partner thanks his fans for their “support.”

De La Hoya has been in a relationship with golf commentator Sonders, 37, since 2021.

The boxing legend’s clothing choices have previously attracted media attention. In 2007, De La Hoya was photographed wearing fishnet tights, women’s underwear and a wig.

However, he claims he was set up by two anonymous women and that he was “under the influence of drugs.”

“I was on drugs,” said De La Hoya, who said he previously struggled with cocaine and alcohol problems. “I didn’t even know it.”

“I was dealing with bad people, this and that,” he continued on the Club Shay Shay podcast. “Two women come into my room with a suitcase. That’s all I can remember. And then I wake up the next day…”

‘[In the case were] “Women’s clothes, drugs, this, that,” he said, suggesting the women knew exactly what they were doing. “They set me up. They set me up, but it’s okay, it happened. So what?”

Although De La Hoya initially denied it was him in the photo, the former Olympic gold medalist has since admitted the photos are authentic.

“I’m open about it,” he said. “I don’t give a damn.”

De La Hoya has spoken candidly about his relationship with drugs and alcohol on several occasions, speaking to First on Fox Business about the “rift” between him and his mother.

“I got addicted to alcohol and drugs and I literally lost myself. And the fact that I had a relationship with my mother that was so broken; she never told me she loved me. I was always going to those clubs and picking up women,” the boxer detailed.

“And it wasn’t necessarily because you want to be with them,” De La Hoya added, “you just want to talk and have a voice, ears to listen to you. And I remember just crying and telling everything to this stranger that I don’t even know.”
