Early Tuesday morning, Collins Jumaisi, the main suspect in the Kware murders, escaped from Gigiri Police Station. He didn’t do it alone—12 Eritrean nationals, held for illegal immigration, also broke out.

The escape was discovered around 5:00 a.m. when Police Constable Gerald Mutuku and the canteen manager went to serve breakfast. They found the cell empty, with the wire mesh at the basking bay cut open. The suspects had used the breach to scale the perimeter wall and flee.

Jumaisi’s escape is shocking considering he had previously confessed to killing at least 42 women between 2022 and 2024. And dumping their bodies in Kware.

His first victim was reportedly his wife, whom he strangled and dismembered before dumping her remains at a dumpsite. Later, Jumaisi claimed the police molested and tortured him to confess to the 42 murders.

At the time of the escape, Jumaisi was awaiting a plea hearing and had been given seven more days in custody for further investigation. The other escapees were being held on immigration charges.

Following the escape, the Sub-county Police Commander, Sub-county Criminal Investigation Officer (SCCIO), and duty officer rushed to the scene. They’ve since launched a manhunt to recapture the fugitives.

Director of Criminal Investigations (DCI) Mohamed Amin confirmed the breakout, expressing regret over the incident. “It is unfortunate this has happened, but we are pursuing the matter for action,” he said, as the search continues.

This escape has raised serious concerns about security at police stations, especially for high-profile suspects.

Authorities have asked the public to stay alert and report any information that could help find the escaped suspects. The situation remains tense as the hunt for Jumaisi and the others intensifies.
