Knoxfield, Melbourne: Siege underway as special operations cops descend on quiet suburb

Heavily armed police officers gathered around a house where a siege was underway, on a normally quiet suburban street.

A section of Anne Rd in Melbourne’s eastern suburb of Knoxfield was closed for several hours on Saturday as police negotiated with someone in a house.

Special Operations Group agents were seen carrying automatic weapons and wearing bulletproof vests.

This tactical weapons section of the police is typically deployed to tackle armed or dangerous suspected offenders.

An armored car was seen, along with other police vehicles parked around the house.

The siege is believed to be part of an ongoing investigation.

According to the police, there is no danger or threat to the population.
