Woman turns everyday pantry item into cutesy Halloween decor – but not everyone’s happy about it

Social media users have praised a craft enthusiast for her pumpkin-themed Halloween creation, but Instagrammers are concerned about the price.

An unnamed Hip2Save content creator advised Instagram and TikTok users not to throw away Tide pod containers in a video instruction on August 14th.

What was originally supposed to be a “spooky DIY Halloween decoration” – but in the middle of summer – is actually a craft project that’s a lot more expensive than it seems, according to some Instagrammers.

“The real pumpkin container is $3 max. But those Tide Pods are at least $25,” one Instagram user claimed yesterday.

Others wondered how many Tide Pods containers it would take to create a display like the one the creator showed.

The Hip2Save content creator showed social media users how to make these Tide Pod pumpkins using less than five materials, including the containers.

First she soaked the empty containers in hot water so that the labels could be removed.

After peeling off the stickers, Halloween enthusiast Hip2Save took one of the containers and used a Sharpie to draw a face of a hollowed-out pumpkin.

If you don’t feel like making your pumpkin faces with permanent marker, you can also use adhesive vinyl, which is vinyl with an adhesive backing that you can use on smooth surfaces.

After the faces are made, all someone needs to do is purchase a battery-powered light and place it in the containers.

The light shines through the pots, creating a cute and eco-friendly pumpkin.

While not everyone skips summer to indulge in fall activities, Halloween crafts are more popular than usual this time of year, thanks in part too trends such as Summerween and Pinkoween.

Summerween and Pinkoween became popular trends on social media this summer after retail chains were early to offer them to their customers.

“I love taking traditionally spooky elements like skulls, bats and ghosts and mixing them up with pink tones,” HomeGoods ambassador Keiko Lynn told Today in the US.

Lynn, who is also a social media influencer, even posted a tutorial on how to make a ‘secret witch hat’ using pink and green material a month before Halloween last year

The arts and crafts enthusiast joined in on the Pinkoween fun last year after creating a tutorial on how to make a ‘secret witch hat.

Several X users have not embraced the idea of an extremely early Halloween, despite the creative crafting done by the content creators.

“Is it just me, or is everyone releasing their fall and Halloween stuff even earlier this year?” tweeted an X user last month.

“I work in a craft store, so I’m used to buying seasonal products a season in advance. But now everyone is putting them out… It still feels early.”

Someone else tweeted: ‘I went to Michael’s today and the entire front of the store was decorated for Halloween.’

“I don’t mind coming a little early, but this seems excessive. And pink Halloween decorations? Okay.”
