Three inner-city sixth form students have secured A-level results, paving their way to the US with £1 million Ivy League scholarships.

The trio excelled in their admissions tests, leading Harvard and Princeton to award scholarships covering the total cost of their four-year education, each valued close to £350,000.

Their final hurdle was achieving the required A-level results, creating months of anxiety for Newham Collegiate Sixth Form (NCS) students.

Yesterday, confirmation arrived that all three met the necessary grades to study in the US, allowing them to begin preparations for their move.

Tasneen, originally from Bangladesh, did not speak English upon arriving in the UK from Italy at nine years old. Recently, she declined an offer from the University of Cambridge to study maths and physics at Harvard.

Harmanpreet, who will major in engineering at Harvard, achieved straight As in Physics and Maths, an A in Further Maths, and a B in English.

The Poplar, Tower Hamlets resident expressed her joy, stating, “I am really happy with my results. I can’t wait to get to America now. There will be some readjustment needed but I know I’m going to enjoy it. East London and Princeton are very different places, but I am confident I will adapt and have a great time.”
