MP Naisula Lesuuda: 10 aspects I attribute to successful leadership

Samburu West Member of Parliament (MP) Naisula Lesuuda has revealed what she feels has contributed to success in her leadership.

Lesuuda acknowledges the love-h**e relationship the politicians have with the public but has gone on to explain what she thinks has set her apart from her peers.

“Over time, I have come to realize that politicians are both loved and h***d in equal measure. We are often lumped together and bear collective responsibility for the actions and misconceptions of our peers.

“In my engagement and leadership of the p****e of Samburu West, I attribute my success to certain key qualities that I hold dear. I share these qualities not to seek praise for the work I am elected to do, but to inspire those who wish to join leadership and to answer the question; Can anything good come from politicians?” the legislator said in a post on X on Tuesday, August 13, 2024.

Lesuuda pointed out a number of qualities that she holds dear as a leader.

“I believe leadership should be modelled from the top, as leaders reflect their society. I never expect something from my constituents that I am unwilling to do myself,” she said.

“Over time, I have built trust with my p****e. My constituents know that I say what I mean and mean what I say. I strive to keep my promises. If something is not possible, I am straightforward about it; if I’m unsure, I communicate that I will investigate and provide feedback later. As the Samburu say, “During the day, they look one in the eye, and at night, they listen to the voice to know if you are telling the truth,” the MP explained.

The lawmaker also revealed how she manages her time and how she puts effort into ensuring that her leadership is transparent and accountable.

“My constituents know that I value their time as much as I value my own. I am punctual for all my public engagements. It took time for them to believe that a politician could keep time, but now they know: “If Mhesh says it’s at 10 a.m., we should be there at 10 a.m.” I also strive to conclude the meetings I call by 5 p.m.

“I make it a point to share the work we do as a team for Samburu West. Some may call it PR, but for me, it’s about being accountable for the God-given time to serve and the resources I directly oversee, such as NGCDF, Uwezo, and KERRA 22%,” she added.

Speaking boldly and truthfully are also character traits that Lesuuda said have been her driving force in leadership.

“I speak boldly and truthfully on matters that affect my constituents and community. My priority is the p****e who entrusted me with the mandate of leadership.

“When engaging with the community, I often travel to specific places without an entourage. This approach allows the p****e of that place to access me directly, without any barriers,” she continued.

The MP said that she always strives to respond promptly to community needs, although it can be overwhelming at times due to the volume of messages she receives. She also says that she strongly believes that when p****e come together, good things happen.

“I reach out to different offices and individuals for the betterment of the community, knowing that I cannot solve all the challenges alone,” she said.

Lesuuda also talked about c p in leadership; “My stand on matters like peace is well known, and it doesn’t change depending on where I am or who I am engaging. My position on many matters is consistent, providing predictability to those I serve,” she revealed.

Trust in God

“I trust God for guidance in all I do, believing that ultimately He is the author of my life and destiny. This faith gives me the courage to change the things I can and accept those that I cannot,” she concluded.
