Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has yet again emphasized that he is a proud villager.
Gachagua who accompanied President William Ruto on a three-day development tour in Kisii and Nyamira counties on Tuesday, August 13, 2024, donned a hoodie branded with his image print and the caption ‘I am a villager’ during his morning walk in Kisii town.
“I had a refreshing healthy walk this morning. I savoured the freshness and the serenity that is Kisii town and its environs. It was gratifying seeing early risers out and about building our Nation in the region known for its high productivity and hard work,” Gachagua said.
Proud villager
On June 12, 2024, Gachagua slammed his critics for calling him a villager noting that everyone comes from a village.
Gachagua who was presiding over the Pharmaceutical Society of Kenya (PSK)’s International Science Conference in Mombasa, emphasised that he is proud of his origin and no one should make him feel embarrassed about his origin and identity.
“Mimi nimeshuguru sana sina mambo mingi mukinikubalia nirudi Nairobi ni kaekae alafu niende kwa Village unajua kila mtu ako mahali alitoka na kila mtu ako na kwao hii Mombasa ni uwanja wakutafuta riziki na hii Nairobi ni uwanja wakutafuta riziki lakini mwisho kabisa siuna jua mahali utarudi so I don’t know why anybody should have a problem with where we all come from because somebody comes from somewhere and that is the truth and everybody should be proud of your origin and identity and nobody should ever make you feel embarrassed about your origin and identity,” Gachagua said.
He further questioned why some would not communicate in their mother tongue to the p****e who speak and understand the same language adding that he only speaks English or Swahili when he communicates to the audience from different dialects.
“I am talking English here because some of you may not understand my language I speak Kiswahili which p****e cannot understand but when I go to the village what business do I have talking to the p****e of the village English and yet am not a muzungu si hiyo itakuwa ni maringo si iyo ni majivuno sasa wewe unaenda kwa kijiji kila mtu anaongea lugha moja so why would you have to address those p****e in English ama Kiswahili,” he said.
