British boy, 17, ‘is raped in toilets at Magaluf restaurant after being put on a table with Swiss man he did not know’

A Swiss tourist has been arrested on suspicion of raping a British teenager at a restaurant in Magaluf.

The 17-year-old male holidaymaker told police his alleged attacker followed him into the toilets and forced himself on him after they had had drinks together following a dinner show at the restaurant.

The British teenager had been out with friends but ended up with the Swiss after they were seated at the same table for the show, despite not knowing each other.

After leaving the restroom, he alerted security personnel and gave them a description of the suspect. They then apprehended him at the restaurant exit and handed him over to police when they arrived.

The British youth was taken to hospital for routine checks before he could give a full statement.

The restaurant has not been named. The incident happened in the early hours of Sunday.

The Swiss suspect, whose age is unknown, was brought before a judge later that same day but was released on bail rather than being held in pretrial detention.

It was not immediately clear today whether he would be allowed to leave Mallorca pending an ongoing criminal investigation. He refused to answer questions from a judge.

Yesterday afternoon, police in Mallorca confirmed they are still hunting a Senegalese man suspected of raping and robbing a British tourist on a beach in Magaluf.

He reportedly discovered her drunk and alone on the resort’s busy Punta Ballena promenade after she had been separated from her friends. He carried her to the beach, where he forced himself on her and then stole her phone.

The sexual assault occurred around 4am on July 24, but was only made public yesterday.

He is locally described as a street vendor.

According to police sources, he has been identified and it is hoped to arrest him in the coming days.

On Sunday it was revealed that another British tourist had received help from police after she claimed she had been raped and robbed on another beach in Mallorca.

The 30-year-old told detectives she had arranged to go to the beach in Palma, the island’s capital, with a man she had met and eventually arranged to have sex. However, on Thursday morning a second man arrived on the scene and forced himself on her.

They then ran off with her belongings, the holidaymaker said.

According to local reports, she had accepted an offer of “free drugs” from the man she met while walking in Palma, before heading to the beach with him.

She was taken to hospital for a routine medical check-up and was said to be ‘visibly affected’ and in ‘shock’ before flying back to London.

In April last year, an Italian man was arrested on suspicion of raping a 38-year-old British woman on a beach near Magaluf after luring her from a nearby bar.

The 20-year-old was arrested after the victim complained that he had forced himself on her after a night out in Palmanova, which is adjacent to the famous party resort.

A spokesman for the Guardia Civil in Mallorca said at the time: ‘The Guardia Civil in Calvia has arrested a 20-year-old Italian man on suspicion of involvement in a crime of sexual abuse against a 38-year-old woman.

‘Last week, the alleged victim and the suspect met in a bar in Palmanova.

‘When the bar closed, the suspect allegedly took advantage of the woman’s disoriented state due to the amount of alcohol she had consumed by taking her to the beach and raping her.

‘Officers launched an investigation and were able to identify and locate the alleged perpetrator.’

Court officials were unavailable this morning for comment on the investigation that the judge launched at the time.

An 18-year-old British girl was allegedly raped in a hotel in Magaluf in the early morning of August 14 last year.

Five French nationals and a Swiss man were arrested and remanded in custody pending an ongoing judicial investigation. Two other suspects were subsequently held in France under European Arrest Warrants.
