Detectives drawn from the Anti-N*******s Unit (ANU) on Wednesday, August 7, 2024, recovered bhang worth Ksh4.6 million following the pursuit of a suspected d**g trafficker in Kilifi County.
Police say the suspect abandoned the vehicle he was using to transport the contraband after realising that he was being pursued and disappeared on foot into a thicket.
“Detectives from the Anti-N*******s Unit (ANU) based at Malindi Police Station are currently in hot pursuit of notorious d**g traffickers who narrowly escaped a police dragnet, abandoning a haul of seven sacks of c******s valued at over Sh4.6 million in the streets,” DCI stated.
Upon searching the abandoned vehicle, officers discovered seven sacks of bhang weighing 155 kilograms, with an estimated street value of Ksh4,650,000.
The officers also intercepted a black Subaru Exiga with the registration number: KCF 259K along the Kilifi-Malindi road in the Mtondia area during the pursuit.
The recovered n*******s and the vehicle were taken to Malindi Police Station for safe custody as exhibits.
Police say a m*****t has been launched to trace and apprehend the suspects involved in the Wednesday d**g bust.
“The DCI commits to continue and sustain the fight against the sale, distribution and consumption of n******c d***s without fear or favour.”
This comes just days after detectives drawn from both the Transnational Organized Crime Unit (TOCU) and the Anti-N*******s Unit (ANU) arrested a suspected d**g trafficker in the Kanugaga area of Kawangware in Dagoretti North where they recovered assorted n*******s with a street value of Ksh646,480.
“Upon arrest, a search was conducted in his residence resulting in the recovery of assorted d***s including 72.39 grams of m*************e, 16.84 grams of c*****e, 3.83 grams of ecstasy, Ksh202,000 in cash, digital weighing scales, assorted glass tubes- bongs among other exhibits,” DCI said in a statement.
DCI arrests students with bhang
On August 2, 2024, two high school students, one aged 17 in Form 4 and the other aged 16 in Form 3, were apprehended with a large amount of c******s and placed in custody.
The two were travelling from Busia to Nairobi on a bus when they were nabbed with bhang with a street value of Ksh690,000.
“Acting on a tip-off, a vigilant multi-agency team stationed at the Suo roadblock intercepted the bus. A meticulous search ensued, leading to the discovery of five bales of c******s, weighing a total of 23 kilograms, cleverly concealed in the students’ bags. The street value of the seized c******s is estimated at Shs690,000,” DCI stated.
