Thousands of AI-generated ASMR videos are taking over TikTok in the latest “trend” going viral on the app.
Ever since AI-generated videos began growing in popularity back in 2023, social media users have uploaded them in an attempt to go viral on the internet.
Back in May, there was a trend on TikTok that used an AI program to take viral podcast clips and turn the hosts into babies. In the process, users managed to take over the app with baby versions of Joe Rogan, Theo Von and dozens more top stars.
Now, thousands of AI-generated ASMR videos are taking over TikTok, including videos showing a woman eating a bowl of lava.
AI ASMR goes viral on TikTok
When you look up the videos on TikTok, you’ll be met with much of the same: a knife cutting through a glass-like structure.
Most of the time, those structures look like a fruit, whether or be a bundle of grapes, a watermelon or an apple.
Sometimes, however, the video shows a seemingly normal glass orb being cut until it uncovers a kiwi or the inside of a coconut.
The new AI ASMR trend doesn’t just involve cutting objects, either. One viral video shows a woman doing a mukbang, but instead of food, she’s using chopsticks to eat a bowl of molten lava.
Lava appears to be a common theme in some of the AI videos, as well. On Sunday, June 15, one account posted a video showing an alien wishing people Happy Father’s Day while holding a plate of food.
Instead of a normal steak, though, the alien is holding a plate with a sizzling mound of lava that looks like a steak instead.
Across nearly every AI ASMR video on TikTok is hundreds of users shocked at how random the clips are, with many pointing out how many lava-focused uploads they’ve seen.
AI content has been quite popular on the app over the last few months. Back in February, an AI history filter let users go back in time.
