Action-adventure game MindsEye, released on June 10, has become the worst-reviewed game of 2025 so far, but the developer is committed to improving the experience.
As of June 15, developer Build a Rocket Boy’s debut game has a Metacritic score of 43, placing it last among all titles with critic reviews on the site released in 2025 so far. Released on February 6, Ambulance Life: A Paramedic Simulator was previously the worst-reviewed game of 2025 with a critic score of 44.
Directed by former Rockstar North president Leslie Benzies, reception to MindsEye on other platforms hasn’t fared much better. On Valve’s Steam, the cinematic third-person shooter currently has a “Mostly Negative” overall user score from over 1k reviews.
While criticisms vary, prevailing complaints included performance and technical issues, repetitive gameplay, and clunky combat.
Within 24 hours of release, players started demanding refunds, with some even claiming that the game was scamming Steam users.
While console data isn’t readily available, SteamDB figures don’t exactly paint a flattering picture, either. On its June 10 release, MindsEye’s player count peaked at 3,302 players, declining to a 24-hour peak of 517 five days later.
Build a Rocket Boy promises “frequent” updates
Despite all of this, however, it’s worth pointing out that Build a Rocket Boy has committed to rolling out patches for MindsEye to address feedback. Per the game’s official Discord, a number of patches and hotfixes have already been rolled out, with more to come.
“We are heartbroken that not every player was able to experience the game as we intended. Our priority is optimizing performance and stability so that every player, across every device, can enjoy an equally high-quality experience,” the studio said.
“We are fully committed to ensuring all our players have a great experience, and we will continue to provide frequent and transparent updates. We will do our best to respond to all your comments and feedback,” the message continued.
