MARYA OKOTH RECOUNTS GRADUATING FROM HOSPITAL BED DUE TO PARALYSIS

Comedian YY’s wife and Kenyan actress Marya Okoth has shared how she battled paralysis, an illness that saw her graduate while in the hospital. Her ordeal began just four months after Marya Okoth gave birth to her daughter Circe Gaona in December 2021.

One night while she was sleeping, Marya “ tried to switch positions while sleeping and could not feel my leg. It felt like it had been chopped off.”

Her husband, comedian YY, called an ambulance immediately.

Initially, Marya thought the hospital visit would be short. However, doctors discovered blood clots in her leg, leading to a six-month stay.

“I had to stay in the hospital for six months,” Marya explained.

Doctors advised against surgery due to its risks, so Marya was treated with medication and therapy.

“There was no guarantee I would fully recover,” she said.

Amidst the struggle, Marya graduated while still in her hospital bed.

“Graduating in the hospital was a pivotal moment for me. It made me determined not to let anything stop me from reaching my goals,” Marya shared.

Marya also spoke about the emotional challenges she faced, including feelings of loneliness and self-pity.

“I used to cry at night, feeling like my legs were getting thinner,” she admitted.

Her husband YY supported her throughout, staying by her side every night.

“He slept in the hospital, helping me with everything,” Marya said.
